Kareena Kapoor Khan launches a women’s safety app ‘VithU’

Kareena Kapoor Khan launched the women’s safety app ‘VithU’ in Mumbai today. This is an initiative of Star network in association with Channel V. Women can use this app as a safety device and call out for help with the click of a button.
Kareena mentioned that she was eager to join this initiative as she feels no one is safe in the city, anymore. She mentioned that actors should take up these issues and support such programs, since they have a wider reach. Kareena also added that her hubby Saif Ali Khan was also keen to support the cause.
How It Works :

VithU, is an emergency App that, at the click of the power button of your smartphone 2 times consecutively begins sending out alert messages every 2 minutes to your contacts that you feed into the app as the designated receivers or guardians.

The message says “I am in danger. I need help. Please follow my location.”

The receiver will receive a link to your location every 2 minutes giving them your updated location. Also, you will get updates on the Crime Scene in India and a “Tips Feed” option exclusively giving you safety tips in an emergency situation.

Don’t miss your favorite Crime Show “Gumrah” with the “Show Alert” option in the Menu Bar which will be your reminder & alert you whenever Gumrah is on Air.

Last but not the least, if you have been a victim or witnessed a Crime you can share the incident with Channel V by posting it in the “Submit Your Story” option in the Menu Bar.

‘Pizza’ Goes to Hollywood

Karthik Subburaj is on cloud nine, as his 2012 thriller ‘Pizza’ has crossed all language barriers and is remade into a number of languages, including Hindi.
Recently, the film won at the River to Rive Florence India Film Festival in Italy, and Hollywood producer Aamal was impressed with the film.

He contacted the ‘Pizza’ crew immediately and snapped the dubbing rights for the film for a whopping sum.

So it is most likely that ‘Pizza’ will now be available to the Hollywood audience as an English dubbed version! Excited producer of ‘Pizza’

has declared extra remuneration, at this juncture, to everyone in the crew, including Vijay Sethupathi and director Karthik.

Big B congratulates Abhishek on ‘Dhoom 3′ success

The film, which is the third offing from the ‘Dhoom’ franchise, saw the 37-year-old Junior B reprise the role of a cop. “‘Dhoom 3′ weekend collection all India is Rs 107 crore. This is going beyond all records ever !! And going beyond berserk,” Bachchan, 71, posted on Twitter.

 Thanga Meengal adjudged best Tamil film in CIFF 2013

Chennai: ‘Thanga Meengal,’, which beautifully portrayed the father-daughter relationship and life around government-run schools was on Thursday adjudged the best Tamil film in the 11th Chennai International Film Festival here.

Chief guest and ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra handed over the award to the film’s director Ram at the valedictory of the CIFF here.

“Movies are not homogeneous. Every film is special. We are not making cars here. We are not making bikes here. Every film is special. Chennai Film Festival has truly connected the festival with the masses,” Mehra said in his speech.

Special certificates were given to child artistes Prithviraj Das and Sadhana for their roles in ‘Haridas’ and ‘Thanga Meengal’ respectively.

Special Jury Award in Tamil was given to actor Atharva for his role in ‘Paradesi.’

‘Haridas’ was also adjudged the second best Tamil film. A total of 106 films were screened from 58 countries in five venues in the city.

Music honour for Balamurali, Usha Uthup, Jerry Amaldev

Carnatic music legend M Balamuralikrishna, pop singer Usha Uthup and noted music director Jerry Amaladev have been selected for the prestigious Swaralaya-Kairali-Yesudas awards for their contributions to contempoaray Indian music.

The awards, jointly instituted by cultural forum Swaralaya and Kairali TV in honour of living music legend K J Yesudas, carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each, a citation and a memento.

The awards were announced by former Kerala Culture Minister and CPI(M) Polit Bureau member M A Baby, Kairali M D John Brittas and Swaralaya’s Kerala Chapter general secretary E M Najeeb at a press meet here today.

The jury noted that Balamuralikrishna is a legend in Carnatic music who also made enduring contributions in popularising the classical tradition.

Usha Uthup has been a versatile singer who enthralled music buffs cutting across cultural and linguistic barriers in a career spanning over four decades.

Starting from hotels and clubs in Mumbai, apart from popular numbers, Usha has sung in over 150 films and has come out with over 200 albums.

Starting his career in a Kochi-based troupe, Jerry Amaldev has rendered music to scores of highly rated songs in Malayalam films.

A dedicated student and researcher of Indian and Western traditions, Amaldev has produced several Christian devotional albums in different languages, the jury said.

The awards will be presented by Yesudas at a function here next month.
